Hip / Knee / Leg pain
Treatments available for lower limb problems
- Osteopathy
- Podiatry
- Bowen Therapy
- Medical Acupuncture
Lower limb problems can cause pain in or around the hip, knee, leg or foot. Sometimes the pain is referred from the low back and there is no actual damage around an area which feels sore or painful.
The job of your Osteopath is to assess your problem and work out what could be causing it. If you have any lower limb problems and want to get on the road to recovery, you do not need a GP referral to see an Osteopath - just book in for a consultation and treatment.
If the problem is serious, needing urgent medical attention - perhaps there is the risk of a Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) or infection - you will be referred back to your doctor or hospital specialist.
If you have suffered an injury to the leg, you may need to have scans before treatment can be started - if this can not be arranged quick enough for you by your doctor, you may wish to consider a private MRI scan (roughly £200 per area scanned) - we can refer you to a clinic near Solihull.
There are several options for treatment, depending on the cause of the problem:
- foot orthoses to correct poor foot mechanics (may require a referral to our Podiatrist)
- ankle, knee or hip joint treatment
- lymphatic drainage treatment to help with circulatory problems
- soft tissue manipulation - muscle stretching or other techniques to reduce muscle tone
- muscle strengthening or other exercise advice
- light touch therapies, such as Bowen Therapy, to encourage the body to make its own corrections.
If you would like advice about your problem, ask to speak with one of our therapists.
